Title | A cost effective process for the synthesis of cleistenolide, its derivatives and analogs |
Knowhow is available for | A simple, cost effective process for the synthesis of natural product cleistenolide useful as antifungal and anti-tumor agent |
Summary | Cleistenolide is a natural substance derived from Cleistochlamys kirkii Oliver plant. It exhibits diverse array of biological activities such as activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus anthracis, as well antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Further it can be useful in treatment of wound infections, rheumatism, and tuberculosis. Current processes for synthesis of cleistenolide involve chiral starting materials, which mandate the process protection strategies, special conditions, and reagents. Further, these processes do not result in high yield of final product. To address this issue CSIR-NCL has developed simple, economical, short process for synthesis of racemic as well as chiral Cleistenolide and its derivatives and analogues. |
Advantages | - The process doesn’t require chiral starting materials, which renders process more cost effective - This process results in high yield of final product such as lactone compounds and its analogs, derivatives, salts - This is a shorter process and economically attractive - Process requires minimal requirement of protecting groups for the synthesis |
