| Abstract |
An improved process for the preparation of 2 alkoxyphenols of
formula III of the drawing accompanying this specification
wherein R is linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon
atoms which comprises heating a mixture of catechol of
formula I an alcohol of formula II wherein R is linear or
branched alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the presen
ce of large pore zeolitfes such as aluminosilicate catalyst large
pore silicates optionally containing rare earth metal oxides
and a conventional binder at a temperature in the range of
80 200 C filtering the reaction mixture to remove the catalyst
recoverig the 2 alkoxphenol by distilling off the excess of
alcohol and t unreacted catechol optional ly recycling the
catalyst distilled off unreacted catechol.
